From Kari Johnson, Have Trunk Will Travel:
Thanks to everyone for all your letter writing and support in opposition to SB 716, the ban the ‘bullhook’ bill. It’s the bill that makes the use of the guide/bullhook illegal in California based on the animal rights propaganda that there is no way to use it without abuse. Unfortunately, the bill has gone to Governor Brown’s desk so our last chance is to ask him to veto it or it automatically becomes law next week. Legislators have been listening to animal rights “experts” who are telling them it is possible to give elephants the same quality of care and achieve the same level of cooperation that you can with elephants managed only in protected contact (PC). PC is okay if it’s all you have but every bit of access to and cooperation from an elephant trained in free contact is beneficial. It certainly means there would be no more elephants at events, fairs, wedding and available for film work in California. We ask you to please write a letter today and help us get the word out to your friends, family and colleagues and ask them to write too. We’ve fought long and hard and this is our last shot.
Write to the Governor today and ask him to veto SB 716. Letters you have already written regarding the bill are fine, just readdress and remember to ask for a veto. Thank you! ~Kari & Gary
