ALERT from CFA Animal Welfare Committee:
Senate Bill 1062 has passed the Senate and Assembly and will now go to Governor Jerry Brown to either sign into law, veto or ignore. If he simply ignores it, it becomes law anyway. It is important that we bring his attention to it and ask him to Veto SB 1062, the ban the “bullhook bill”.
Governor Brown vetoed a very similar bill (SB 716) last year because there are already enough laws in place to protect elephants. Let’s make sure he does it again!
Write to Governor Brown now and ask him to veto SB 1062.
Ask your friends and family to write.
If you are an elephant handler, researcher, veterinarian, conservationist, educator or someone with unique experience or qualifications it is especially important that Governor Brown hears from you whether or not you are from California. If our elephants have been important to your work tell Governor Brown.
If you are a film producer, director, actor or film professional and have worked with our elephants you have seen the relationship we have with them. If SB 1062 passes our elephants will never work in film productions in California again.
Handwritten letters and letters from teachers, kids and California residents mean a lot.
A short, personal, polite letter is best. You don’t have to be an expert, speak from your heart. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number and signature. Please copy us on your letters. Every letter counts!
