Representatives from Feld Entertainment and the National Animal Interest Alliance (NAIA) attended the March 23 elephant ordinance hearing in Richmond.  The ordinance was amended to become effective June 30, 2018.  The ordinance now faces a final vote, which will most likely happen on April 27.   The City Council members did not take any testimony at the March 23 hearing, but should do so at the April 27 meeting.

The City Attorney is researching whether Virginia state law gives local jurisdictions the authority to enact such an ordinance.  The City Attorney's opinion should be available on or before April 27th.
