U.S. Congressman Moran attempts to outlaw traveling circuses
Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) has introduced HR 3359, the Traveling Exotic Animal Protection Act, which would outlaw the transportation of exotic and non-domesticated animals in traveling circuses and exhibitions. This legislation would make it impossible for any traveling circus to continue to operate with performing animals.
This legislation is completely discriminatory. It would only outlaw the transport of animals in circuses; it specifically exempts permanent animal exhibits, zoos, aquariums, and rodeos. Congressman Moran is attempting to outlaw circuses with this unnecessary and unjustified legislation, and is supported in this action by former game show host Bob Barker and other misinformed celebrities.
This bill will take away the right to choose whether or not to view animals in entertainment, based on the misinformation and distortions of a few animal rights extremists.
Circus Fans and other circus supporters are urged to contact members of Congress to oppose this legislation. Please take the following steps:
1. Contact Congressman Moran to OPPOSE his legislation. The Congressman’s contact information is as follows:
The Honorable James P. Moran

Phone: (202) 225-4376
Fax: (202) 225-0017
2. Please also contact your own U.S. Representative to urge him or her to oppose HR 3359. If you don’t know your district, visit http://www.house.gov/ and enter your zip code in the “Find Your Representative” box at the top of the page.
3. Additional members of Congress are being specifically contacted by activists, and their information is listed below. Let them know that you oppose the circus animal bill (HR 3359) by Congressman Moran and why.
4. In your letters, be sure to include your own personal experiences with circuses and your enjoyment of performing animals. Members of Congress need to hear from the many citizens who enjoy the traditional traveling circus as a form of quality, wholesome family entertainment, especially if circuses visit your local community. You may also want to point out, in your own words, that there are already adequate laws in place to ensure the care and safety of animals in circuses, and consumers have the right to make their own choices about the type of entertainment they enjoy with their families.
